A drabble and a half.
He had knocked, but there was no answer, so Simon opened the door and found Inara slumped on the floor of her shuttle, crying. He tried to sneak out again, but Inara had seen him, and with one graceful motion waved him inside.
"What's our illustrious captain done now?" he asked her lightly.
She laughed a little, and wiped red eyes with the soft silk hem of her dress. "It's not Mal. Not anymore than usual. I just..." her voice trailed off, and she sighed. "I was just thinking about my home."
Simon just sat, and didn’t ask her anything else. Inara’s tears started to run again, silently, down flushed cheeks. With a tired sigh, she rested her head on Simon's shoulder. "I suppose you know the feeling."
He reached one hesitant arm around her, and held her as she trembled sadly against him. "Yes. I suppose that I do."

Perfectly perfect.
"Yes. I suppose that I do." *Sigh. Melt* Damn, woman, you're a good writer.
